Pro-lifers have had the make-up of the U.S. Supreme Court on their radar ever since the infamous Roe v. Wade decision of 1973, but the radar waves reached new heights this year with the death of Justice Antonin Scalia, and a very disappointing High Court decision striking down the very logical, very sensible Texas law which would have safe-guarded and protected women’s lives, and saved preborn babies.
Recognizing what is at stake, The Opinion Editor in The Wall Street Journal issue of 7/23-24/16 warned, “Republicans and Democrats on the campaign trail say the 2016 election could reshape the Supreme Court for decades. They are right.” (Emphasis added.)
Think about it! I, for one, have given my heart and soul to the pro-life cause as a dedicated “always hopeful” volunteer for over 43 years. There is a whole army of us out there in the trenches fighting to restore the right-to-life of vulnerable babies. What will happen to the morale of that enthusiastic, motivated army if all “hope” is lost for the foreseeable future? It would be devastating! If the wrong person, with a history of pro-abortion activism, is elected, and the hand-writing is on the wall for pro-abortion Judges getting the nod as appointees for the next 30-40 years, who could blame battle-weary pro-lifers for giving up, and throwing in the towel?
You don’t want to vote? You say you are unhappy with the flawed candidate who was not your choice as you observed the primary process? Understandable, perhaps, but we’ve been there before, with disastrous consequences! In the 2012 presidential election, a large contingency (over 30 million) of Evangelical Christians (who would historically have been voting pro-life) didn’t like the religious affiliation of the pro-life candidate, so decided not to vote at all. Post-election analysis proved that this group made up the largest absent voter bloc, resulting in this “absent bloc” helping to propel the pro-abortion incumbent into a second term.
A pro-abortion organization, with ties to Planned Parenthood, is pulling out all the stops in trying to influence this election. Last month the organization ran full-page ads in numerous daily newspapers promoting their usual pro-abortion “choice” propaganda, but adding an even more ridiculous claim. The organization is attempting to equate funding of abortion with Christian social justice. Its members understand full well what is at stake in the outcome of this election, so they will try any desperate tactic.
